This year, the Zoom to Your Rights Contest offers a different experience: Disconnect for 24 hours to pause, observe, feel, and rediscover how you connect with digital technologies.
It's not about being "against" the internet, games, or social networks. It's an opportunity to gain a clearer view of what you like about the digital world, what you don't, and what you could change to make it a healthier, more respectful, and fun environment for all children, teens, and adolescents.
Technology is present all the time: to learn, play, express yourself, connect with those you want to... But it can also be tiring, distracting, or pressuring. Taking a day without screens can help you:
Listen to how you feel
Observe how you use technology and for what
Rediscover activities you enjoy that don't depend on a screen
Imagine proposals to improve digital environments
When 24 hours without screens are over, it’s time to return… with a new perspective!
Reflecting as a group will help you focus on what you experienced, share what you felt, and think about what you want to change or propose.
You can have a roundtable, create a bulletin board, use sticky notes, or talk freely. Anything that comes up can be useful to create your final production.
Trigger questions:
What did you enjoy most without screens?
What did you miss?
Do you use devices out of necessity, habit, for fun, or out of boredom?
What emotions did you feel?
Which networks or platforms connect you to good things?
Are there situations that cause stress, anxiety, or pressure in the digital world?
What small decisions could you make every day to be better online?
How can you take care of your mental health while using technology daily?
What ideas do you have to make digital environments more respectful and secure?
What advice would you give to other teenagers?
Who do you think is responsible for your well-being?
Do you often compare yourself to what you see on social media?
How do you feel when you see influencers or famous people?
How do you interact with others online?
Does hate affect you?
Did anything change in your relationships while being screen-free?
Phrases, ideas, proposals, emotions, drawings. All of that can turn into your creative production: a video, podcast, meme, illustration, or AI-generated content. Some ideas:
draw how your emotions changed over the 24 hours
“I realized...”, “I missed...”, “I liked...”
represent real or imaginary situations about technology use
express how you felt or what you learned
write down everything you think of to improve the digital world
